Grotta is a lighthouse located on the tip of Seltjarnarnes Peninsula, in a place that was declared a nature reserve in 1974. The lighthouse was built in 1897 and later, in 1947 was built another one close by. Lately, it became one of the most visited sites in Reykjavik area, being an amazing place for walking, biking or bird watching.

When admiring the view, be aware of the tide change to avoid becoming stranded on what turns into a little island. Driving to the lighthouse is easy and the little parking lot is free. Additionally you could catch the 11 bus from downtown, walking takes approximately 40 minutes along the paved Sculpture and Shore Walk.

Grotta, or Grótta in the local language, is the site of a nice lighthouse and sits at the westernmost end of Reykjavik city. However, due to small-place politics the western end of Reykjavik is not Reykjavik at all. It is a special town called Seltjarnarnes.

Jul 2018. Fun off-road experience with the kids in their pram. It has amazing views on the way over to the faro. Nice experience, even for the kids.
